Hello everyone, for those of you that don’t know me I’m Nathaniel’s much better looking older brother, Jameson.
I’d just like to say on behalf of the bride and groom, myself, and our families we’re all truly thankful to have you all here today. I feel so honored to be in the same room with so many people that love this couple as much as I do. And to be celebrating such a joyous event, it’s truly a blessing.
As is customary with these types of speeches, normally the best man comes up with a funny story to say about the groom. However, when I sat down to write all this, I realized I literally had 23 years worth of material! Whether it’s waking up at 7 in the morning to find my brother cooking hot wings and watching “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” Or when he was real little and he used to ask my mom to kiss his butt when he fell down; there’s enough to fill an entire hour.
So in light of that, I decided to go in a different direction.
But feel free to pull me aside and I’ll continue to embarrass him to no end, after all, what’s a big brothers for.
So I decided to go a different direction…
I’ll preface what I’m about to say by saying this: I think in the most difficult of situations, you can find the best in people.
As many of you know, last year was probably the worst year of my brother’s life. Hospital visits, illness, the uncertainty of it all; it was tough. But there was one thing that shown through. Aileen. She listened to him when he was in his most vulnerable. Stayed with him at all hours and showed her strength when everything looked its worse.
In this unrelenting storm that was my brother’s illness, she was his guiding light. She was his north star.
It’s not often you find someone that can take care of your brother better than you can and I’ve certainly found that person in Aileen.
And now, I feel so very honored to be able to call her my sister.
So I ask that you all raise your glasses for a toast. To the bride and groom. May the love that binds your souls be never-ending and without bound. And to Aileen may you forever be my brother’s guiding light. May you forever be his north star.
